The annual UVic Plant Sale will be on Sunday, May 3 in the University of Victoria’s McKinnon Gym. Doors open at 10 a.m. and the sale ends at 1 p.m.
Gardeners will find a wall-to-wall selection of annuals, perennials, rhododendrons, native plants, trees, alpines, exotics, herbs and vegetables.
New for this year: a table featuring plants propagated from the UVic gardens, and there will be a bagged manure fundraiser for the Victoria Riding for the Disabled Association.
Shoppers are reminded to arrive early for the best selection and, while shopping carts will be available, it’s a good idea to bring carrying boxes for the trip home. Visa, MasterCard and debit cards accepted.
The UVic Plant Sale is organized by the volunteer members of the Finnerty Garden Friends. Proceeds support the ongoing development of UVic’s Finnerty Gardens, a tranquil 2.6-hectare woodland site at the southwest corner of campus.
Known for its outstanding collection of rhododendrons, the Finnerty Gardens have evolved to include an impressive array of more than 4,000 different trees and shrubs.
Three ponds provide habitat for birds and water-loving plants like the towering timber bamboo. April and May are when the rhododendron blooms are in their prime.
The Finnerty Gardens are open year-round and admission is free.
