New Deadline for UVic Alumni Award Nominations

The UVic Alumni Association is extending the nomination deadline to Jan. 30 for its Distinguished Alumni Awards and the Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Up to three Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented in 2004 to UVic grads who have excelled in academics, athletics, fine arts, business or professional life, or public and community service.

The Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching—including a $2,000 cash prize—will be given to an outstanding faculty member, senior instructor, sessional lecturer or senior lab instructor. Portraits of past winners are displayed in the McPherson Library.

Nomination forms for both awards are online at: alumni.uvic.ca/awards/index.html.

Recipients will be honoured in November at the 2004 University of Victoria Legacy Awards—the annual gala dinner celebrating alumni achievement, outstanding teaching and athletic excellence. Proceeds from the Legacy Awards support scholarships and athletic awards.

Since 1993, Distinguished Alumni Award recipients have included Aboriginal rights advocate Miles Richardson, Edmonton Journal publisher Linda Hughes and world champion cyclist Alison Sydor.
