Break-In Nets Employee Information
A weekend break-in at the University of Victoria resulted in the theft of personal information about current and former employees along with a small amount of cash, cheques and some electronic devices. UVic has notified the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner and is cooperating with the Saanich Police investigation.
Included in the stolen information are employees’ social insurance numbers and bank account numbers. UVic is notifying all of its employees about the theft and advising them of steps to take to ensure their privacy and identities are not compromised.
UVic will review its security measures in light of this theft and implement any recommendations that may result.
