Call For Nominations: UVic Chancellor, Senators

Nominations for the University of Victoria’s next chancellor are now being accepted from UVic alumni and other members of the university community. Four members of senate are also to be elected.

Nominations must be received by the Office of the University Secretary by 4:30 p.m. (PDST), March 20. The election will be conducted by webvote and paper balloting between May 20 and June 20. The new chancellor and senators will hold three-year terms commencing Jan. 1, 2009.

Eligible election participants include: UVic alumni, past and present members of the university’s governing bodies, regular and retired faculty members, regular staff members (with a university degree and with at least 12 months service), and former students of Victoria College who completed one full year of studies prior to 1963.

The chancellor is the titular head of the university, confers degrees, and serves on the board of governors and senate. Chancellor Ron Lou-Poy, first elected in 2002 and acclaimed for a second term in 2005, leaves the position on Dec. 31.
