2009 Victoria's Leadership Awards Call For Nominations

Who makes you proud in your own community? Here’s a chance to sing your hero’s praises – every year, local leaders are lauded at the annual Victoria’s Leadership Awards and nominations are now being accepted by Leadership Victoria.

Leadership Victoria is an action and study program dedicated to honing the skills of current and future community leaders. The annual awards are a partnership between Leadership Victoria, the University of Victoria, VanCity, the Rotary Clubs of Greater Victoria, and the Victoria Foundation (newly joined this year).

Victoria Foundation board member Fiona Hyslop, who has been appointed to the board of Leadership Victoria, is encouraged by this collaboration between the two organizations. “As the recipient of the 2006 Leadership Victoria Lifetime Achievement Award I have followed the progress of Leadership Victoria closely, and have a firm belief in the value of recognizing and encouraging our emerging leaders and the non-profit organizations that do so much for our community.”

The annual awards are:

The Victoria Foundation Community Leadership Award, which recognizes an organization that is building community capacity and achieving positive change. The Victoria Foundation is a new partner this year.
The University of Victoria Community Leadership Awards, which acknowledge outstanding leadership in linking UVic and the community for greater public benefit.
The Rotary Community Leadership Awards, which recognize community leaders who meet the Rotary test of the highest levels of ethical behaviour and community leadership.
The Vancity Youth Award, which acknowledges an emerging leader between the ages of 20 and 30 who demonstrates community leadership and support for social justice, economic self-reliance or environmental responsibility within our community.
The Leadership Victoria Lifetime Achievement Award, which honours outstanding current or posthumous long-term service in community leadership roles such as philanthropy, innovation, mentoring and career achievement.

Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 28. Nomination packages and further information are available online at www.leadershipvictoria.ca, or directly from Leadership Victoria at Suite 306 – 620 View Street or by phone at 250-386-2269.

The awards will be presented in early February at the Victoria’s Leadership Awards after-work reception at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria.
