Dr. Valerie Kuehne has been appointed as the University of Victoria’s new vice president external relations. Her appointment is effective Dec. 1. Kuehne was formerly the university’s associate vice president academic planning before assuming the vice president’s role on an acting basis on July 1.
“We conducted a national search and it was clear to the committee that we have found the very best candidate,” says UVic President Dr. David Turpin who chaired the selection committee. “Valerie enjoys a remarkable amount of support on campus. She is able to articulate the university’s vision to faculty, students, staff, alumni and the community. She is the person we need to build support for UVic as we head into a time of significant expansion.”
Kuehne has been a faculty member in the school of child and youth care since 1990. As associate vice president academic planning she was instrumental in leading UVic’s planning for the Island Medical Program.
“I’m very much looking forward to future opportunities and challenges as UVic moves ahead with a renewed strategic plan,” says Kuehne. “We have some significant work ahead of us and I look forward to working with the campus, and community and government partners in support of UVic’s vision to be a university of choice for outstanding students, faculty and staff from British Columbia and beyond.”
Kuehne will be responsible for the university’s alumni services, ceremonies and events, communications, community relations, development, government relations, marketing, and the Maltwood Art Museum and Gallery.
