My primary interest is in understanding the neural bases for self-regulation of attention, emotion, and metacognitive awareness. I study these processes in healthy individuals using multiple methodologies. This provides information for development of rehabilitation interventions for individuals with neurologic illness or injury. In "ProjectSMART" we are focusing on meditation practices as an exemplar for the study of self-regulation, to understand how to apply practices such as mindfulness in a clinical-rehabilitation context.
Health Related Research
I work actively with clinical medical populations, specifically, individuals who have cognitive impairment either acquired (e.g., traumatic brain injury) or insidious (e.g., dementia/neurodegenerative disease).
