Computers and information: Limit. Secure. Report.

Mobile computing devices such as laptop computers, flash drives, PDAs and cell phones are now common on campus. Follow these tips to keep your equipment and sensitive information secure:

Limit information

• Limit the information you have. Be aware of the information stored on your laptop.

Secure devices

• Put your laptop/mobile device out of sight in a locked office cabinet or take it with you. Never leave equipment unattended. Use a strong password.

Report losses

• Report lost or stolen items immediately to Campus Security Services at 250-721-6683 (non-emergency line).

Dont' forget to back up regularly. If you have sensitive data, store it on a university server or encrypt it.
